The Abandoned
Snow littered the streets
dotting it in white specks,
distant songs of cheer
caught upon the wind,
lights seen blurred
through coming winter
haze
Where people passed
huddled close together
in thick warm jackets,
children's laughter
passing store
windows
Though not all share
in celebration,
a lone figure sits
left in the cold
watching with sad
eyes
On the street corner
cast under street lamp shadows,
knob knees drawn together,
no place to call home,
tattered clothes with empty
pockets
Hunger left in the belly,
limp hair framed gaunt features,
a forgotten outsider
left in the cold.
