House of Mystery
Did you hear it?
A sound within the darkness
ghostly music of far away
a voice whispered long dead secrets
cry to find an escape
from the rattle of chains
Can you see it?
Face imprinted on the glass
an S.O.S. made in dust
the child's fingerprints smudged
while a moth dances to the light
Will you smell it?
Lingering smoke from old cigarettes
coffee burn within the sink
flowers wafted threw the windows
faint tang of unknown citrus
a phantom woman's sweetness
Do you taste it?
A dash of the acidic
sourness of memories forgotten
savory drop of cocoa
gush of pure freshness
Could you feel it?
Feathery touch against your cheek
a coldness passing
drapings of heavenly velvet
the invisible squeezes your hand
passion unbridled

That darned house...it just will NOT go away.
Loved this one for its message, its beauty, its wrestling
with that awesome spectacle...the "dark" house.
What is it about dark mansions that just will not go
away from gothic lore? Looking back at the writers
of gothic lit, it's always that castle, that mansion, that
home that is so full of spiritual eroticism. Beowulf had
Herot to deal with, and I wonder, is there an earlier
tale about a haunted home that comes before that one?
And did humans invent the "house" story or did haunts
and spooks narrate the tale to us?
Whatever the case may be, the castle / mansion/ home
is here to stay. You handled that wrestling match very
well. *claps*
