The Gypsy Man
A Gypsy Man was spying on me
eyes veiled behind thick lashes
truth only he could see
under the haze of smoke
where he smelled sweet and sour
Thought I glimpsed a smile
old stories he would tell
lost within this enchantment
veil wrapped upon his head
twitch of his dark mustache
Gave a knowing wink to me
calloused ridden fingers strummed the strings
bells would chime as the women would dance
old songs he sung weaving spells
laughed with a ring of gold on every finger
He slapped his knee and laughed out loud
offered to tell my fortune
leaned in close to pierce my soul
a ring in his nose and two in his ears
his teeth flashed yellow when he spoke
He charmed me with mysticism and lead me to his tent
I followed into the fog of silk and smoke
knowing then that I was doomed
a curse would be bid and a price paid
taken by the Gypsy Man
