The Betrayal

"There you are" The voice came silky smooth as always just within Fenton’s ear. And as always with her presence he could feel the tingles run up and down his arms, and legs, and down his neck through his spine. It was because of the bond. The bond which she had placed upon him, she had told him it was the only way, and what did he know? He still did not understand half of this.

At first he would not give any response to Sasha, but remained standing where he had been, for an undetermined amount of time, just staring out into the crowd where Erila had disappeared into. He felt paralyzed when the voice came more sharply this time drawing him out of his reverie. "Fenton? Did you hear me?" He would at last turn around slowly to face her, and seeing her standing there just in front of him, her cheeks flushed with wine, her mass of raven curls cascading over her shoulders and spilling down her back, with her bright come hither eyes, and her body squeezed into a little black number with the plush milky white of her breast over spilling the top of her dress, it took every fiber in his body not to smash in her vain self-assured face.

He utterly loathed her at that very moment, and his body shook with the rage which had begun to build within, the dark rage that came from a special place deep inside of him, that if he was not careful he could loose complete control over. It was so easy to lay the blame upon her, she had ruined his life, and he lost everything which mattered to him because of her. "Get away from me" His voice was spoken low, and yet deep there was the tang of something inhuman about it.

Sasha was taken aback, she had seen his eyes begin to cloud over the moment he turned to face her, the sound of his voice now vibrated through every bone in her body. She was staggered back a couple of steps. Just a moment ago he had been in good spirits, what could have happened to him now? She had seen this side of him before, it was what had first drawn her to him, but never before had he directed it at her, and she had to admit it frightened her a bit, but deep down she knew she had to maintain the position of authority, she could not let him turn the tables upon her. She had the power through the bond if he harmed her, he would only hurt himself.

She drew herself up as she let her face become stern while her eyes would lock with his own, keeping her voice firm, and yet still with a lingering sweetness as she would come to speak. "You do not know what you say" Fenton felt the tug upon him, it was like an invisible leash bidding him to obey, and somewhere deep within his mind a part of him wanted to go to her, to lay his head upon her shoulder and beg forgiveness, but he resisted it as much as he could. It was more of an effort to keep his anger up as she pressed her will upon him but he was not going to just give way to her this time. His mind flashed back to his encounter with Erila to reaffirm his resolve. "You have ruined everything" He spoke just through clenched teeth, giving him a snarl as his eyes bore into hers.

Sasha felt a mix of emotions in the face of Fenton’s anger and rebellion, and she was at a complete loss as to what he was talking of, had someone said something to him? But who and what? No one knew about him, not the truth, or what she was doing. She would have to press her will upon him a bit more so though she did not want to have to hurt him. Her voice becoming colder, "Not here, if you have something to say to me, then we will go somewhere to talk." Without another word, or giving him the chance to respond she turned and began to make her way through the people only hoping that none had caught the exchange between them, her gaze sweeping for any possible eavesdroppers, but it seemed all were to preoccupied with their own interests to some small relief.

Fenton flinched slightly at her harsh words and the weight they carried, he was not use to her speaking to him so, and as she began to slip away he felt the strong urge tug him to follow after her, though in the back of his mind, he told himself he should flee from here, he should flee and go after Erila, but he found his feet taking him forward, and soon he was pushing through the party goers to follow on the heals of Sasha.

She would begin to make her way up the twisting spiral of the marble staircase, her hips sash shying back and forth, as her long, deadly heals rapped against the pristine stone. She was a walking; talking, breathing stereotype Fenton had thought, like something out of a bad horror movie, or perhaps a Bond girl, so unlike Erila in every conceivable way. How had he ever gotten himself into this he often asked himself, but it seemed he was in too deep now to walk away. Once more the image of Erila lifting the mask to show herself to him flashed within his mind, could she have been apart of this? For how long? What was her role? Who was she really? The thoughts came flooding into his mind when Sasha would come to stop before a finely carved wooden door which was more then like made from mahogany. It was Sasha’s room at least while she was here it was. Pushing the door open she would step inside, and he followed after her letting the door close behind them.

The room was a grand room, a large, king sized canopied bed sat upon a dais against the wall, down below, against the opposite wall was a large stone hearth which now flickered and crackled with fire which cast a warm yellow orange glow over the room, around the fireplace, a couch was stretched out, along with a few other high backed softly cushioned chairs making a comfortable sitting area, all the furniture was of heavy intricately carved wood.

Sasha would drop down with a sort of elegance upon the couch and motioned for Fenton to seat himself. He would without a word come forward and sit down upon one of the chairs, turned just so, so the chairs might face the couch, allowing free and easy conversation between any who might be gathered. "So are going to tell me just what this is all about?" Her tone had softened once more as she watched him waiting patiently. Thoughts of Erila had driven away some of his anger, and was replaced by the great pain in what he had done, the anguish he caused her. "She was here"¦.she saw me"¦..she saw us." His voice had retreated back almost into boyhood, that feeling of being lost returning to him once again.

Everything would become clear to Sasha now as she sat there, though there were now many questions hovering in the air, she knew this was a delicate matter and she would have to proceed with care if she did not wish to incur Fenton’s wrath once more. Taking in a slow breath as she would come to speak, "What do you mean she was here? Did she follow you?" She had to take care not to accuse him of anything. Keeping her voice as gentle as possible.

"No"¦..I do not think so"¦"¦she." He tried to think just how to explain as he was always careful when speaking of Erila to Sasha to say as little as possible, for Erila’s own protection. "She was"¦.she was wearing a mask" Fenton’s words froze her blood; this changed everything how could it be. She would have to work very carefully to contain herself. Her gaze shifting to the fire for a moment. "You did not know that she was"¦." Sasha searched for the words she could use to explain that Fenton would understand without raising too much questions she was not in the position to answer, but he would finish the thought for her, though not in a way that was altogether pleasing to her. "One of you" He said barely able to hide the disdain which caused her to stiffen slightly.

"This might work in your favor, she might be angry now, but she will take some time to cool off, and think things over, and think about it"¦now you are even, after all how could she really be mad at you when she has been keeping this secret all along." Fenton sprang from his chair feeling his anger surge again in the face of her flippant attitude. "You are probably glad this happened, you probably have planned it from the beginning, sitting there so smug and oblivious to anything else beyond yourself" Sasha was quite taken back thinking perhaps she had handled this wrong and she would slowly push herself to her feet, as she would not sit there and let him tower over her. "Fenton, whatever you may think of me, whatever I might be, how many times must I assure you, I am not trying to take you away from her. I am trying to help you, and there is no other way then this to do that, do you remember that day I first found you? Do you want to live like that the rest of your life, with that fear? And what if you had hurt yourself or worse yet someone you cared about, someone like her? Is that what you want? You must learn to control what you are."
