One big comedy skit

Anti-drug commericals are just incredibly stupid, and really they are insulting to thier audience, you know what they remind me of? All anti-drug ads are like one big comedy skit, you know the one, that is on some movies, or on TV shows, or sometimes places like SNL, where like the totaly square parents, decide they are going to talk to thier childern about drugs, but they decide to try and sound hip and cool, and you know it is going to be a diseater, and they fail miserbely and everyone just laughs at it. That is what the anti-drugs are, they are the middle-aged dad, wearing his baseball cap backwards, with baggy pants, signing a really bad white boy rap to his kids about why drugs are bad, thinking he is cool and reaching out and conectiong to the younger genereation.

The latest one I just saw, is totally set up to look like an e-card, you know those online greetings, the grpahics and animation, and the music played in the background are all totaly taken from an e-card, so the ad is an e-card on tv about why you should not do drugs, and it shows this little scene with this guy and a girl who are just one step up from being a stick figure draing, sitting on a bench with music playing in the background, you know kind of elevator type music, and the guy begins to light his joint, and then little red captions appear about the girls head that says "You doing it again?" or something like that, and then a UFO appears and lands on the ground and an aliean gets out, and the guy has little read captions above his head that says something like "You want one"  and then the alien has captions like "Not thanks" and then a little heart appears above the girls head and she get up and runs away with the alien becasue he won't smoke a joint.

What is that sierously? Besides horribly bad and not a chance in hell of doing anything, ok the only people that ad would make not smoke are the ones who were not going to smoke anyway. In highschool I hung out with all the stoners, and I know they would have laughed thier asses off at this shit.

I've been thinking long and hard, but I can't remember having ever come across any Dutch anti-drug commercials. There has been one campaign like ten years ago, which involved booklets aimed at both parents and kids which stated all sorts of facts about the different types of drugs commonly used, just so there would be no more myths, but that's it.

About what you just described... wouldn't it be better to have these uncool adults promoting the use of drugs instead of trying to fight them? If kids saw that if you use drugs, you may just end up like those people, that should come as a far bigger shock, eh?

That is great, I love your idea, and I think you are right, that would be more efftective if these were promoting drugs, because then people would like holy crap I am going to end like that?
