Shadow Inside
The shadow woke in me
and looked at my soul
reflectively.
Drop by drop
it drunk me in.
Feeling its long tendrils
stretched out within
me.
The shadow would lay
its claim upon me
unflinching when the
last light has gone out.
Languid upon the strings
I no longer know myself
for what I used to be.
Within the mirror
strange eyes look back
at me.
I touch my skin
with a sense of
wonder.
Embrace this new found
numbness taunting to
release me.
So I can just float on by
float on by
I always frown
when I should be happy
always laugh when I should
cry.
But now the shadow inside
has found me
and I rise above.
