Holiday Cheer

I use to always get irritating this time of year, with the whole war on Christmas stuff that springs up, and what you can and cannot say, and what you should or should not include and so on and so forth, becasue I knew that in all the mix my own beleifs and traditions, which is just about the sole reason there is a Christmas at all will go completely ignored in all of this and not be menetioned for good or bad but within the Pagan community.

But I have gained a new perspective upon all of this that now serves to amuse me. As one of the big issues that comes up in this, is the fight over the "Christmas tree" and the right of varrious establishments and public buildings to have a "Christmas tree" as there was already an epsidode where someone had one up, some public place, I cannot reemeber just what it was, and one persona complained so they were going to take it down but then the rest of the community protested that and so they kept it up.

But the thing that have dawned upon me is that there is no Christamas tree in the bible and the christmas tree has nothing to do with christanity or any christain symbology, it is purely and completely a Pagan symbol, so now I just sit back and watch Christains defending and fighting for Pagan customs and traditions, and I know in thier own minds, they are defending christaintiy and they are oblivious, but I still gain some great amusment and satifsaction that socity has now been shaped such that Christains end up blindly fighting for Pagan rights. It is like poetic justice in its own way.

Yeah, I feel exactly the same way about this, and it amuses me equally. There is this forum on Yahoo Answers, Religion & Spirituality, for instance, where you find all these fundies who in the same sentence damn Pagans to Hell, and defend Christmas, with all its Pagan symbols that they are convinced are Christian.

Most even believe, despite being quote fundamentalists unquote, that Jesus was born on December 25, a date that was actually taken from a Roman warrior, Mithras, who was believed in Rome to be the messiah. A good reason for any thinking Christian to at least find another date on the calendar (October-November most likely) to celebrate Jesus' birth.
