You know, one of the things that really annoys me is when people just say things without even thinking about what they are saying and then it just comes out sounding stupid and not making sense in the long run. There was this show on the History channel but the lost Minoan (probaly spelled that wrong) culture that lived on the island of Crete, and the culture was said to have been readdly very advanced and there is some evidence to suggest it might have been from them that the legend of Atlantis was created, and that was all very intresting, and it was talking about how in the end the culture was destroyed by this volcano, but they recovered after it but were not as strong as they were before, and this is part of what helped the Greeks come into power. And as we knew the Greek civilization has held much sway over Western culture.
But anyway, at the end of the show, the host/narrator guy was saying that if it was not for the Valcanao we might all be reading Plato in Minoan today. Ok first of all, as far as I know, most people do not even read Plato in Greek today. Even if the world would have been shaped differently if the Minoan's had been a domineering culture instead of the Greeks, things would still change over time, and just as the Greeks are no longer a world power anymore, I really do not think the Minoan's would still be, even if they had had established a Empire in the past for themselves.
