Train SpottingI had a little adventure today. I decided to take a walk down to the train tracks to get some photographs. There are these train cars that have been parked out on the tracks for a while now so I walked down and took a few shots of the tain cars, and then I decided to explore a little the aera behind the trains, where there are just more tracks, marshy grassess from the near by wetlands, and ditches filled with murky water as well as a varity of discarded junk, but I thought I would see what I could see and take some pictures of anything that lept out at me in any sort of way.
I decdied to take a walk along the tracks, it is something I alwyas enjoy doing, though not something I do very often, as I have not in fact acutally walked down to those tracks before, but I have been a few other places were I walked among the tracks, and I kept thinking about the Stephen King story, Stand By Me and then I was thinking about how I often hear a lot of stories about people who get killed by trains, and I also think they must either be reaslly stupid, or jumped in front of the train on purpose becasue you would hear a train long before it got close enough to hit you not to mention feel the vibration of the tracks, but still it was kind of daunting walking among the tracks and I wondered to myself if purphaps I would find out just how a person got thesmevles run over by a train, though I was not really worried and figured I would know in plenty of time in advance if a train was coming.
Along my walk I happend upon a crazy old man walking his dogs, though he seemed like the frinedly hamrless kind of crazy not though I am going to go pyscho and try and kill you crazy, and really my soul basis for deciding that he was crazy was simply becasue he tried to engage me in conversation, and I never understand why a stranger would want to talk to another, if they were in thier right mind. Being how much I dislike having to converse with others and being I just wanted to be left alone and go on my way, I was polite but disengaging, that is, I replied nice enough when he spoke to me, but I did not encoruage him into further conversation and I did not slow my walking but just kept going on my way untill I was able to go in peace.
I did happen upon what I have dubbed the place where cars go do die. As there is this area in which there is a collection of seval shells of cars, that have been completly stripped and burned out, just how they got them there I do not know they must have driven them over the tracks, as near as I can figure they are likely stolen cars that have been dumped there. And there was this little ditch with a pool of water where a few of the cars were, and then I began to think how it would be cool if I were to discover a dead body, morbid I know, but then I would probably have to report it, or I could get in trouble if somehow someone found out I knew about it but did not tell anyone, but needless to say I did not find any such thing.
A ways uphead, as I was walking along I could see this bridge and I debated walking down to the bridge, thought I might get some pics of it, but then right past the bridge was what looked to be a plant of some sort, and I did not know if the bridge was part of thier property and if it was private property or some such so I decided not to go down to the bridge, but there was this other thing just ahead of me that looked like some sort of ramp or something and I wondered what it was so I decided I would walk up to it, and while I was walking a truck suddenly pulled a short ways in front of me, as appernetly it was a maitence road, and then I sort of freaked out, casue I really did not know if I was tresspassing on private property or if I really should not be back there, so I jumped off the tracks and began to walk the other way, trying too appear nonchalant while fleeing the scene of the crime so to speak, at any rate, either they did not notice me, or I was not breaking any laws or they just did not care as they said nothing and just kept driving, but at that point I decided to make my way back.
So I was walking back the way I came, but for a different persepctive and becasue of my attempted flight, I decided not to walk back along the tracks but instead walked just alongside the parked trians in the grassy area. I did happen upon a bit of an odd sight. There was just on the ground next to one of the trains an assortment of clothes scattered acorss the ground, mostly it looked like jeans and t-shirts, though no doubt the homeless frequent that area behind the trains, and I almost witnissed a car crash, though I did not acutally see anything still being behind the trains, and at that point I was quite glad that I was on the otherside of the raod with a rather large train between me and the cars, but I heard a sudden screeching of tires and dust fly upon the air. It sounded as if only one car was involved, and it seemed they just kept driving though exzactly what could have happend I do not know, near as I can figure somehow they almost went off the road.
I also did happen to see two acutal moving trains upon my way back though at this point I was no longer walking the tracks and neither one of the trains were on the tracks I had previously been traversing. Well as I mentioned before there is a bit of a marshlands in that area and there is lots of water and ditches of water, and so at somepoint in my venture back the flat ground left me and I found myself suddnely walking through some marsh light grounds, it wa just really thick tall grass being broken up by deep wholes that were full of soft muddy ground and you could not see where you were walking because of the grass, so I had to try and navigate my way around trying not to break my ankle or end up in a mud hole untill finally I did make it back to realtively flat ground again.
Along the way I did get some cool shots of seagulls in flight becasue there were sevreal flocks of them flying overhead sense it was close to the water, as on the otherside of the train tracks is the Delta. So I finally make my away acorss the tracks to the side of the raod once more, and the road along the tracks is a fast and busy road, and seemed there were more cars on it this time around then when I first set out, and there is this one spot, where there is a ditch just on the otherside of the road, so there is a metal berriar blocking it off, but because there is no sidewalk on that side of the road, as it is not really meant for foot trafiic, if you were to walk alongside of the berried you would be walking just on the side of the road with really no space between you and the cars and a lot of big trucks use that road, and it seemed there would not be a break enough to make it acorss the full length of the berrriar before any cars came, but there was also no easy way around the ditch, so I trying to decide just what to do, when I noticed this metal pipe spanning the ditch and I thought I could cross that as a bridge, using the berriar to help steady me.
Now the pipe was not that wide, and it was round, and my balance is not known to be great, so it was a bit scarry as I inched my way across holding onto the berriar with both hands, though the fall was not that high it still would have been far from a pleseant one, but alas I made it acorss without incident or injury.
So at last when I thought I was homefree, and just when I reached the spot where I needed to cross the road it had suddnely cleared of all cars, and I was on the homestreach a sudden and unforseen obstacle thus arose. This old woman began trying to talk to me, and I could not hear her becasue on the walk back I was jamming to my ipod, but she seemed presistent and started to walk toward me, so I had to remove my ipod plugs to see what she wanted. Well the trains had been parked there oon the tracks for sometime, and there is this group of people whom live just acorss the street from the tracks that have been having an on going war with the railroad becasue they don't like the trians there becasue they think it blocks the view of the Delta and the think the trains are ugly. Granted I am not bothered by the trains, and I think the railroad has the right to park thier trains wherever they want upon thier own property, but I did not want to get into a whole poltical thing with her so mostly I just let her yammer on and simply said that I was not bothered by the trains.
Apperently being an old lady, she naturaly had nothing better to do but to be seeing what everyone else was doing so she saw me taking pitures of the trains, and she said she had contacted several different governement agencies to try and get someone to do something about the trains and she says lobbiests had come down before to take pictures so I guess she thought I was there to do something about her problem, so I just told her I just take pictures for a personal hobby and finally she let me go.
I will post some the photos from my adventure.
