Animal Instinct

Posted in Thoughts

As you probably already know as I have talked about such before, one of the many things which irritates me is people who say things on TV, or on the Radio, or in magazines, when they do not know what the heck they are talking about.

I was listening to this Radio show, the morning show I oft listen to and often gives me good writing matterial here. And I did not catch the whole story, but apperently there is some ball park that is doing something which dietions, have critizied, something to do with hot dogs, and how much people eat.

At any rate, the deatils of that are not really all that relevent, so the guys on the radio were talking about how human begins still are ruled by what they call thier "animal brain" and the idea that you have to eat as much as you can when you becasue you do not know when the next time you are going to eat. And how subconciously people see in terms that you have to eat the whole deer carcus right now because you don't know when you will have food agian.

But that is a misconvieved notion. For one thing there are cases of even animals acutally "saving" food and not evne animals nessicarly just gorge themselves in one sitting. The reason for example that dogs have the habbit of digging, and like to bury bones, and toys, and such things is becasue it is a left over instinct from thier distant cousins. Wolves acutally will bury stores of food. They do not eat a whole animal caraccss just in one sitting but they will take bits of left over meet and burry them to come back to later.

And furthermore, humans, even in the most primitive state, has always had ways of preserving and storing up food. Even pre-historic humans would salt meet, or sun dry it, to make it into a jerky which would last. And they would keep stores of nuts, and roots, and such things to be used later.
