Butt OutYou know one of the things that always irritatates me, are people that feel the need to get offended on behalf of someone else. Self-rightous people that get offended by something in which they have no personal invetment in, simply becasue they feel that someone ought to be offended by it particuarly if the thing was not done with the intent of offending in the first place.
I was reading one of my faveorite non JH blogs, and it is a blog that is all about the discussion of weapons, particuarly bladed weapons, one of my interests, and he was discussing this particular blade that he said looked like an Alaskan/Eskimo knife and this person made this coment all about how the word Eskimo is duragatory and offesnive, and how the correct word is Inuit.
First of all anyone with a brain could tell the context in which he was using the word, second of all, by his post, I got the general feeling he himself was not infact an Eskimo (Yeah I said it) and maybe an Inuit would be offended by his use of the word in the blog, but that is not for someone else to decide, that is for the party directly involved to decide for themselves.
Maybe an Inuit who read it would think I know he is not trying to insult my people so I am not going to be upset about it, and thus there would be no reason to make a deal of it.
At any rate I am tired and annoyed with groups or indiviudals who have nothing better to do but be offended by things, that are not directed at them, when there is no indication that those whom are involved are taking any offense to it.
It is just like the people who want the mascots of teams like the Braves, the Chiefts, the Red Skins etc... changed, now there may be some Native Americans whom are offended by such, but a lot of the people acutally trying to protest are not in fact Native American themselves, they are some sepcial interest group being offended on behalf of the Native Americans, becasue they think that the Native Americans should be offended by it.
But you know what, not everyone wants to be offended by something stupid that is not acutally having a real negative impact upon thier lives. So just butt out and mind your own bussiness or find something that would acutally affect you personaly to be offended by. 3:19 PM - 3/11/2008 - post comment
