Devil's AdvocateNow as you know, I do not often talk on issues relating to politics, becasue well there are plently of other people are there to do so, but everyonce in a while some story will come along, and I will decide I want to speak on it, and there is one phenemoen I have noticed in the political realm that I find perhaps a bit odd, and perhaps I am just more cynical than most people.
First of all I want to say that there are few whom condem cheating and has a harsheer view upon it than I do. I think people who cheat are generally the lowest form of scum there is. I am very unforgiving on the subject of unfaithfulness and have no respect for those that engage in such acts.
But with that being said, I find it currious that whenever a polition is discovered to have had an affair, it almost always ruins thier career, and I do not think that cheating should be grounds for a pollition to be forced to resgin from his office. For one thing, there is no other job I can think of in which if a person is caught having affair they would be fired, or pressured into quitting.
For ezample if a CEO of a major company was discovered to have had an affair, I do not think he would be pressured to step down as CEO, nor should he be, for one thing, I really do not think that fact that he had cheated makes him a bad CEO, it might make him a bad person, but it does not make him incompanant at his job, or unabale to preform his professional duties.
It is the same thing in politics, I think a person can be a fine senator, governenr, congressmen, president..ect.. and be unfaithufl, there needs to be some sort of line I think between the personal and profressional. I just do not think that when it is discovered that a polition has had an affair it is cause for the angery mob to bring out the flamming torches.
And well where my cynisim comes into play and perhaps my view point on the subject, is that fact, that it seems like whenever a story like this breaks, everyone is all shocked, and like can you beleive, but for me it is more or less exepcted. Going into it I just presume ahead of time that all politions have had cheated, are currently cheating or will likely cheat, and yes I know that is not true for everyone but the way I see it, for every polition who gets dragged through the mud, there are dozens more who do not get caught.
And quite honestly, I do not beleive the wives of these men are really so naive that they do not know what goes one behind the scenes, now I am not saying they deserve to get cheated on, but quite frankly there are just certian professions, that a woman going into it, has to know if she has any intelligence and comon sense, that there is just a higher likelihood of cheating than in certain other professions. And whether they choose to marry such men, out of pure and simple love, or thier own personal ambition, or wanting to live a certain lifestyle, they know the risk involved, though they might choose to put the blinders on, but they are not completely oblivious to the world they have become a part of and what goes on in it.
And this is not ment to be a justification of even a defense, though I do think, no matter what profession a person has, unless they acutaly break the law, what they do in thier personal life should have no bearing on thier professional life, and I am amazed how the general public can conitnualy be surprsied by politions having affairs.
It has been happening sense the day of Geroge Washington. Right or wrong, good or bed, it is just something that comes with the territory. 8:55 AM - 3/20/2008 - post comment
