Sometimes sweet
sometimes bitter
But always they shape who we are
where we have been
Whispers to our souls
if only we listen
Some allow themselves to drown
but floating within even the deepest abyss
they always offer a life raft
For their existence is proof
that you have survived
Without them
you are only a shell
empty inside
But they are only ghosts
can only hurt if you allow them
Their power is only in shadow
burn the light of life
and watch as they dissolve
They lie within your power
you may sink beneath them or understand
they are now reduced to illusion
If you choose to live within them
you will be lost forever
You do not have to denounce them
to no longer live in your shadows.
