Sweet Nightingale

Posted in Poetry
Sweet Nightingale

Oh, sweet Nightingale
your voice a silver light
the darkness grows pale

With you my heart cannot fail
through the grayness catch a sight
oh, sweet Nightingale

Held dear as the sacred grail
elixir of my delight
the darkness grows pale

When left so alone and frail
winter winds blow afright
oh, sweet Nightingale

Shelter me from pounding hail
may your warmth hold tight
the darkness grows pale

Upon our dreams we sail
bitter storms we fight
oh, sweet Nightingale
the darkness grows pale

Lady Moon

Posted in Poetry
Lady Moon

A stir in the air lingers in my hair
soft descending mist adorns me
whispered prayers on the water
shimmer in her light
the haunted hymn rose
in homage to
the lady
dressed in
blue

The Lovers

Posted in Poetry
She
watched the
shadows pass
as the rain fell
listening to sad songs
play on the radio
slipping into her sorrow
forever lost in emptiness
the darkness encroaches, closing in
her eyes close bit by bit, her breath escapes
while on a distant plain far far away
the sadness fell like a guillotine
a splash of blood stains the marble
vacant eyes stare to the sky
forever a starless night
no more words spoken
worlds apart
and yet so
close is

Night Thoughts

Night Thoughts

As night falls

I must be honest

with myself

In the darkness

the soul is in

the most turmoil

Every star

another lost thought

eternally trying to

reach out

But always

held within

the same place

unable to connect

A Dying Rose

Posted in Poetry
A Dying Rose

You watch the rose die
slowly each day
with no reason why
beauty must always
ebb and fade

Yet there is something
beautiful in the decay
regal as a dishonored Queen
it begins to pallor a little more
without complaint or loosing
dignity

When at last
no longer can it stand
there remains frozen
as the Briar Rose
a mask of the splendor
it once possessed

In this last defiance
there beats something
of a true Romance.

Altar of Love

Posted in Poetry
Altar of Love

Sweetness,
upon thy lips;
forbidden the
poisoned kiss

Tantalizing,
the sweep
of thy veil
stolen breath

Mystery,
lurking behind
thy dark kohl
eyes, while
hunger lays
inside

Lingering,
perfume;
as a ghost
passing through
the room

Captivated,
by your essence
twisting like a fire
within my soul

Oh Priestess!
upon thy knees
before thee divine
beauty, that I may
be saved.

The Cypress Trees

Posted in Poetry
The Cypress Trees

Death is spoken
in whispers
beneath the cypress
trees

Symbols of age old
wisdom once worn
on the crown of kings

A philosopher's reflection
and a bards woeful tale
lingered aroma
of forbidden affairs

Here the old sages
stood, watching
the ages pass

Purveyors of myth
known by the Greeks
and ancient Druids

Shade for slaves
and servants
when dawn has fallen
into dusk

the cypress trees
trade secrets
with the moon.

Black Daisy

Posted in Poetry
Black Daisy

Black daises
like this black
love of mine

surely begin
to dwindle and die
carried away upon
the wind

Seeds of all
that remain
to fall upon
this black earth

Where maybe
they will come
to birth

A poison fruit
or an untold truth

Living Dead

Living Dead

I die inside myself
bit by bit rot away
given into the decay

And my skin
charred to ash
like dust in the wind
blows away.

Aftermath

Posted in Poetry

Aftermath

Broken trees

stand sentinel

over the graven land

where the ash snows

down upon the subtle

gray

Somewhere a bird caws

in no pretty voice

where even the lost souls

slip away and shadows

slide into the arid

cracked land

The sky cast always

in a shallow black

where no sun grasps out

or moon pulse as a

Jude beacon

Not even the welcome

pitch in which the stars

glimmer offering only

illusioned wishes

Only this bland

voidness, where

nothing grows.

Dark Lady

Posted in Poetry
Dark Lady

Her eyes spoke of diamonds
as she looked into the sky
but her love I knew was illusion
a vision I wished would never die

Her hair was like a dream
bedecked in twilight
while her voice would sing
a lament of ethereal beings

But within her soul I knew
shadows dwelled
for she lived in an ebony tower
constructed of graven bone

Her heart was chilled deep as ice
and when she smiled fear
inspired, trembling to the core

But my adoration she always
had, and where she led I followed
her beauty was that of an
enchantress

And I knew someday she
would have my heart out
but like a child I was lost
when not under her guiding hand.

Lady of the Dunes

Posted in Poetry
Lady of the Dunes

A whisper in the ear
stirs against the air
she stands a nameless soul
forgotten by time

Her eyes plead
in her offered cry
while she remains
among the dunes

Her story untold
one faithful night
her life snuffed out
and here she fell

Grains of sand sifting
over her bones
until her corpse unearthed
and unknown

None to answer for her
she weeps alone
unto the twilight
wishing someone to hear

But her tears pass unseen
eroded with the years
no one left to remember
a lady left in the shadows

Beneath the Mango Trees

Posted in Poetry
Beneath the Mango Trees

Beneath the mango trees
within the cool breeze
where the sun is barely
a golden touch

The waters calling softly
repetitively while somewhere
a distant bird calls
hidden away with feathers
as bright as the foliage

A place which can only exist
within the depths of a memory
that was only recalled out of a
dream, but how beautiful it was
that one fine day

When we lay beneath
the mango trees
just barely touching
skin against skin
with the sweet nectar
of fruit between us

The sands were cool
to the touch of warm bodies
and we danced among the
golden evening with not a cloud
in sight

Never will this moment be
forgot, while never has it
been materialized in time
it was only contrived
a place to escape where
in spite of the sunshine
the air is always cool

And there you await me
within the grove
where we lay among the vines
entangled as each twisted limb

A sanctuary found beneath
the mango trees, and when
twilight falls, together we
watch the stars with only the sound
of the light misted rain
stirred by the breeze
we are warmed in each other.

Why the Caged Bird Sings

Posted in Poetry

Why the Caged Bird Sings

Somber eyes

watching through the bars

while some may ask

what provokes a caged bird

to sing; perhaps hope for another day

Where somewhere

the wind blows freely,

weeping guised in the notes

that to an untrained ear

take on a happy gate

Who hast heart

to recognize the mournful cry,

the stoic bars more

then just a barrier

Waiting inside

with a still beating heart

touched by sunshine

that only feels cold

Perhaps it conspires

with the spirits, lifting its voice

to something distant

and far away

Take in dreams

on the wings of wild cousins,

who can truly contemplate

why the caged bird sings

if they ever dare

to ask the question.

My Light

Posted in Poetry
My Light

I would cry if I could
but I have no use for
these tears

You are my shinning star
the green light at the dock
always there as a symbol

The moon is my light
that I watch every night
to try and draw closer to you

But so far apart
I feel the void
by my side

I reach out to you
as I watch the stars
and wonder, do you feel me
when I call

There is an unshattering bond
as I watch for you
through the sky

You are the light
that guides me though
I always see you shinning
no matter how far away.

The Scarlet Satin

Posted in Poetry
The Scarlet Satin

Through the gauze
a touch of satin
upon my skin
a kiss of crimson
I cannot escape

My vision an amber haze
while my breath is stifled
falling away; the muslin
unwraps slowly, revealing
a corpse within

The smell, smokey
while I inhale
a wisp of the funeral
shroud, fluttering effervesces

My fingers grasp
to unravel the strands
but each cord a tie
to eternity

Close my eyes
and descend
while the veil
embraces me.
