7/9/2009 - Deportation
Posted in Unspecified
Hmm, where do I start on this one. At the begining I suppose, but that would mean going
back to 1992 when I first arrived her in the USA with my 9 year old daughter, long time ago.
so, I'll just go back a year when my life and my families was turned upside down.
A misdemeanour shoplifting charge committed by a young woman with post partum depression was
suddenly an 'aggrevated felony' because of immigration law changes.
She was detained, her children given to me, their Grandmother. it took months to go to
the immigration court, everyone said the children were fine, in a stable home. Well, let
me tell you, they were not fine! They missed their Mum, they missed their dad, but he
was not capable of supporting them.
She was diagnosed with all sorts of menal disorders, anyone would have been, she
was in a jail with no windows, no access to the outside, 20 mins visiting time a week
and she'd already had post partum depression.
9 months after being detained, she was sent back to England with a carry on bag.
For a misdemeanour shop lifting charge, she lost her home, her belongings, her children.
was kept in jail for 9 months, not allowed any physical contact with her children, the only contact
they got was touching the glass partition, which we found was also not allowed.
Why am I writing this, because there are an awful lot of legal Immigrants out there being
treated the same, immigrants that have been here since they were children, pledging
allligiance to the flag of a country they believed they were part of. just to find out
they were not. They were not treated the same.
So, my advice to anyone reading this who has a green card, that hasn't taken citizenship,
do it now! because you never know what will happen and you need to safe guard your
children and yourselves.
My daughter is fine, no longer on any medications, got all the help she needed and we will soon be joining her. I will
miss the USA, I've lived here 18 years, but, my family means more to me than where
I live.
