Xero Accountant

1. Monetary Wiz

It is not enough to only read numbers. Your accountant should be able flit through your balance sheet, to sit back on your first visit and give you an immediate and accurate reading of the state of your company. Grab your hat, if on first visit they can not do this and make for the door! You desire direct and honest guidance and an amazing accountant can nearly feel amounts and company health. They could do it well and they can do it immediately.
2. Big and Small Image Thinker

Xero Waikato

This can be critical. A great accountant understands the detail of your financial statements. This really is what all accountants are trained to do. But a great cpa goes beyond publication balancing and conceptualises and comprehends the global or structural strengths and weaknesses of your financial situation. They give you a roadmap of guidance on how you can get there and see and develop excellent results for your business.
3. Have They Grown Their Own Company?

What's the state of their own company? Is it in very good condition? This does not mean what it does mean is they've an excellent running business or company that is healthy and profitable, although they've created a corporation. Have they taken hazards? Are they proactive and progressive? Are they in step with the times? Do they use modern technologies? These are great indexes. Take note if this is occurring and when it is, you may be in the appropriate place. If not, find a beanie who's doing exactly that!
4. Good Communication

Does your cpa stick to account - talk or do they follow best practise clear English as part of their communications policy with customers? Are communications labored and laboured or simplified so there is clarity and mutual understanding? You have let us know this is among the single most important qualities to you. Customers tell us they desire good, simple, smart help. They don't need to learn about academic theories on the growth of tax legislation in NZ over the previous thirty years!
5. What Kind of Team Does Your Accountant Have?

An excellent accountant is not frightened to fire team players who aren't performing for you, the customer. A fantastic accountant will keep trying to find key team players who contribute to a fantastic job. They go above and beyond to source team members who deliver not merely some financials, but quality financials that maximise your return honestly and without cutting corners. There is no sloppy at Slaters. It's about a fantastic team. From Tina (our just fantastic front of house reception person) through to Harsha, (the leader of our Financials Team) and Beth and Shareena. Amazing staff - longstanding members over many years - great individuals who work well together for the team and customer.
6. Comprehends a Good Business Model.

It is not just about a set of financials. An incredible accountant gives you the capacity to develop an extremely good, comprehensive business model over many years. We are proud to say we have customers who've been with us 25 years plus some of these have already been challenged to grow and flourish their companies even when it's been painful! Those who've stuck with our huge picture plans reap the rewards. If your accountant does not help you develop a healthful, longterm business model, have a think about moving on.
7. Are They Easy to Work With?

Up clear prices and front payments? And we do not mean "bundling packages." We determined against these some years past in favour of greater transparency. A clear, fixed price that you could pay off or pay in one fell swoop. (Bundling is a monthly payment that can eek away in the background without you ever entirely getting the full price. It's a confusion for clients since they are locked directly into their package and can't ever actually access anything beyond their bundle without paying additional bucks. We don't do that. Not transparent enough for Slaters and we've seen it eventuate into relationship breakdown between partner and customer.) Easy to make an appointment? Are there annoying and hourly rates that are sneaky concealed someplace in the fine print? A fantastic accountant is entirely transparent about prices and is also very reachable. They're easy to speak with and return to you immediately via free assemblies, phone calls or e-mail. At Slaters you are able to pop in and catch Brett and Brad on the hop, for no additional cost. That's ease!
8. Trustworthy

This can be a biggie. Clients have repeatedly reported that they're actually more comfortable with an accountant who's NOT out and around at every social function and gathering. You have told us a wonderful accountant is not boozing it up at the pub and letting loose with your private financial matters. There is a code of ethics to stick to, and this has to be taken very, very seriously. A fantastic accountant understands they are working with the fiscal heart and soul of the clients and their families and honours that advice accordingly.

These are just a few of the essential elements you need to look for when sourcing an excellent accountant. We hope it helps you on your financial journey. And remember, in case you are looking to change beanies or find one that can actually help you, don't hesitate to email us in at the office on brett@slater.co.nz . You may also book a free appointment online here . Make an appointment and talk about improving your financial future. It is free and chances are, once you speak with Brett you'll come on board.
