8/18/2015 - What to hunt for In a Home Security System
Posted in Unspecified

Your expectations for a home security system is not something to skimp on. Needless to say, you need to have them defined first. The process of selecting the best surveillance system should be slow and steady, ensuring that you weigh the pros and cons of having or foregoing some features. With that said, what critical aspects are required in a home security system?

Firstly, the type of system you desire should be defined. On a low budget, you can get an analog system which records its video input on video tapes. The main drawback to this is having to continually change the video tapes. The more modern option is a PC based DVR system and it usually costs more. It receives the video input, compresses it into a lighter format and stores the data on the HDD. If you get one that is internet enabled, it will allow you to access the video remotely as well. It is the most advanced, with the best enabling you to get live feed through your mobile phone.

The resolution you will need is another consideration. If the system records in high definition, the clarity of the picture will be amazing. It is wildly expensive, and needs a lot of storage space because of the increased size of the video. You could find one that records in standard definition giving you quality images that are decent and useable. Ensure you match the kind of monitor you get to the kind of camera you have. Despite the dating of black and white recording systems, they offer a good value and also perform very well in low light conditions. They are the most affordable when most of your recording is done at night. Color options are available, but they are more expensive.

Decide if you want a surveillance system with advanced features. For instance, heat sensor based systems only record when someone is nearby. They are activated by reading the heat signature that a person usually radiates. Yet other systems rely on motion nearby to kick into gear. One important feature to look for is how much static is captured in the image. Yet another thing to consider is mobility - do you want a camera that sits still or rotates? In large part, this will be predicated upon the range the camera needs to cover. With fixed cameras, you have to try and avoid blind spots when they are installed. Some cameras have a rectangular shape while more modern ones have a dome shape. It’s not such an important detail, but it does affect the purchase price of the system. A great modern option is a wireless system because it is easier from an installation perspective.

Take your time when shopping for the right system and keep all of the above considerations in mind. The price of modern systems rises rapidly as you include more features, so keep that in mind as you make your decision.

There are many Home Security Camera Systems out there so make sure you take your time researching them.
