• 2/16/2007 - Bridge to Terabithia - Movie Review

Posted in Unspecified

Bridge to Terabithia is a poignant tale of friendship.  It deals with the very real issue of bullying in a realistic, and at time humorous, way.  The movie shows the power of imagination.  It will make you laugh and even cry.  I was very unprepared for the unexpected twist this movie took towards the end (think My Girl).  My 7 year old liked the movie because she thought the ending was good.  Of course, Morgan has a very vivid imagination herself.  I could totally see her creating a world such as Terabithia.  I have mixed feelings about the movie.  I thought it had some good messages contained within.  The problem is that I went expecting these children to actually go to another place (much like The Chronicles of Narnia).  The commercials led one to believe that was what was going to happen.  Therefore, my mixed feelings about the movie had more to do with my expectations than anything else.  Overall, it was a good movie.  If you don't catch it in the theater, it is a renter for sure!

• 2/3/2007 - The best darn cat there was - A tribute to my Lonnie

Posted in Unspecified

Lonnie came to me via my marriage to Jeff.  Oddly enough, Jeff's former fiance had him delivered from animal rescue.  It took us awhile to bond, but when we did, I felt like his mother.  He used to love sleeping in bed with me, under the covers, near my calf or feet.  He had a very unique meow.  Before my daughter was born, no matter what part of the house he was in, I could called him, "Lonnie, Kitty, come to mommy."  He would obey just about every time.  Lonnie LOVED to be around people.  If we had a gathering, he would sprawl out on his back in the middle of the room and meow like he was saying, "Look at me all!"  We would refer to him as "lovable lonnie."  Even people that were not cat people, liked this cat.  Lonnie was my furbaby.  He was very special to me.  Unfortunately, one of the most painful days of our lives' was December 30, 2006 when we had to have him put to sleep.  It has been a little bit over a month, and I still feel a little hole in my heart.
