Are we forgetting dial-up?

Posted on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 in Web Development

As I have said before, at home I have dial up Internet Access. Last night I decided to go looking for Home Renovation web-sites to have a look for some ideas.  That was a BIG mistake...

I only clicked on four or five sites before I completely gave up.  Some of them took close to five-minutes to download, and others didn't even open.  It was very frustrating and in the end I just gave up looking at any home Renovation site last night.

I decided to do an experiment and see how long it took to load the two web-sites that I am currenly working on, www.youthstreetallaccess.com (just deployed) and www.ywamit.com (still in development).  Thankfully both of them came up fairly quickly.  Even my own journal, www.journalhome.com/billhutchison (this site), came up pretty quick, which is what I've tried for.

Considering that over 50% of people in North America, an even greater percentage then that here in Australia and a massive amount of people around the world are still on dial up it is far too soon to start ignoring all those users...
