A "Karate Kid" analagy in a sermon?

As Daniel in the movie worked hard at stuff that seemed completely unrelated to what he was doing (waxing cars, painting fences, sanding a deck) he was being prepared.  That's the same as how God can use and orchestrate things to teach us skills and build our character that He can use in what He has planned for us to do.

Now, if you don't listen to the sermon let me explain that top statement a bit.  It does not mean that God orchestrates everything that happens in our lives, only that God can use things to teach us and build us up, if we let Him.
