RSS Feed Reader for Outlook

Posted on Tuesday, September 27, 2005 in Web Development

For the longest time I have been using "You Subscribe" in Outlook for my RSS feeds.  Last week though I discovered that it was the main reason that my computer was running slow.  I found that You Subscribe was jumping in CPU usage all the way up to 70% about every minute!  Also by the end of the day the memory usage was over 100MB!

First thing that I tried to do was upgrade to the newest version of You Subscibe, which was called Attensa.  With Attensa it used a lot less resources on the computer, but it also didn't actually pull in any feeds.  I took a look through the forums and tried to fix it, but I could not get them to work.

So, I uninstalled Attensa and replaced it with a program called intraVnews.  It's free for personal, education and non-profit use.  I'm going to miss some of the features in Attensa, like integration with Firefox and Internet Explorer, but it didn't work, so all those features don't really matter.  I will be probably be revisiting Attensa in the future so that I can use those features, but for now intraVnews seems to be working.

I'll let you know more later about how I go as I continue to work with intraVnews.
