Google Desktop

Posted on 10/13/2005 in Information Technology

Well, I finally broke down and loaded Google Desktop on my computer.  It's currently indexing my computer and e-mails so I can't say too much about it yet, but here are some of my first impressions...

Holy Cow this thing is a resource pig!  Right now it's using 36MB of memory on my computer.  I'm not much of a fan of resource hungry applications, so this one better be good if I am going to keep it on my system, especially since it will be running all the time.

Also the Deskbar doesn't look very good on my taskbar as I run it at double the normal hight, in "auto hide" mode and it takes up both rows on the taskbar.  I opened up and took a look at the sidebar and it takes up a lot of desktop realestate, and it also shifted all my icons around.

Some of my friends swear by this application, so I will give it the benefit of the doubt for the moment.  I'll keep you up date with how it works and if it lives up to all the hype.
