What do you Worship? - Part 2

Posted on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in Personal
This is sort of a follow up from my original article What Do You Worship?.

When my wife Tamara was pregnant with our son Caleb we actually found out that she was pregnant with twins!  We were very excited, until we found out that the second twin had already died.  That was quite a blow to both of us and it added so much fear to the rest of her pregnancy.  I went through a huge struggle with doubt and with trusting God with the life of our other unborn child.

Caleb was born on October 1, 2002 totally full of life and he has been going strong ever since.  Tamara is also now 15-weeks pregnant with our next child.

So the title "What do you Worship" right now asks the question, do you put God first or your family first?

(Don't confuse that with putting "ministry" first, as that is another article that I may or may not get into later. There are quite a few pastors and missionary kids out there with a false understanding of who God is because they always came second to their parents ministry.)

This is actually quite a hard one to answer completely honestly, a lot harder than it was to answer in my first article about this matter when I talked about worshiping God or the tools that He has given us.

I know that I would have a very hard time if I lost either Tamara or Caleb.  Just thinking about that makes me feel sick to the stomach.

I think of Job, who even when he lost everything, including all of his sons and daughters, still worshiped and didn't challenge God.  He even asks "Do you think that I am dumb enough to challenge God? Wouldn't that be asking for trouble?" (Job 37:20 MSG).  All of that book of the bible is a challenge to me to live my life ALWAYS worshiping God, regardless of the hard times that I go through.

I guess this post is in some ways, well in a lot of ways, a question that I am constantly asking myself.  I know the right answer, but walking that out, every day, in all circumstances, can be a challenge.

Literally! You make a great point. It is not pleasant to ponder, but it helps me to guard against making ministry more important than family, or family more important than my relationship with God. Thanks for the honest words.
