Installing Quicktime

Posted on Monday, November 14, 2005 in Information Technology

I went to try to download the new Quicktime as I am needing it for edit and recompress a video for distribution on our web-site. I can't seem to be able to download Quicktime by itself, I need to download it with iTunes, so the download is 33MB large!  I'm just glad that I didn't need to this while I was at home with dial-up.

When I went to install the application I wasn't even given the option to just install Quicktime, I had to install both iTunes and Quicktime, even though I didn't want iTunes.  So as soon as I had installed them both I went in and uninstalled iTunes, which requires me to restart my computer.

That whole process has been quite a pain just to get a simple audio/video codec.

I only wish that I had found this article before, instead of after I went through this whole process:

www.eirikso.com: Installing QuickTime without iTunes

In that article you can read about how to download the Quicktime Standalone Installer.
