Mac Warranty Sucks
We have been having quite a few problems with some of the Macs on base lately. About half of them have had their firewire ports blown by a faulty Sony mini-DV playback device and another one has had a faulty "logic board" (that's motherboard for PC users) that has not been fixed in the last three months or so of trying and yet another one has decided not to turn on any more.If my Dell breaks I call or e-mail Dell, then we diagnose the problem either over the phone or by running a diagnostic program and then the next day a technician comes over to my office and replaces the faulty part.
When a Mac breaks we have to take it into the local Mac store and leave it with them for at least a week until they have diagnosed the problem, order the replacement part and then replaced the part. Then we have to pick it up and hope that they actually did what they were supposed to. From what I have seen and been told Mac does not even offer an on-site warranty as an option. This seems crazy to me when many businesses, especially in the graphic design area, are dependant on their Macs working for production purposes.
Maybe if we had a full fledged Mac store the story would be different, but our experiences so far have been extremely poor.
