Third Day Back

Well, I'm fully back into it now.

To compensate for the increased noise in my office I am usually wearing my headphones listening to Country 105 from back home in Calgary.  The only bad thing about that is that it makes me feel homesick.  Sometimes however I will just have the headphones on even when I am not listening to anything because people tend to leave me alone more when I'm like that.  I might sound like an old scrooge wich comments like that, but I find that I work a lot better in a quite, traffic free environment.

We are pretty busy getting ready for the School of Digital Communications that starts on Monday coming up.  Jon's spending his last week in IT rebuilding computers for the school and tomorrow he will be putting together about a dozen network cables for them to use in the SDC classroom.

We are still having some problems with one of our terminal servers.  For some reason certain users don't have access to the Internet, but other users do!  It's expecially anoying since one of the users that doesn't have access it the administrator, so it is making it especially difficult to fix.

My IPCop Firewall that I am using in the DMZ for our Internet connection is working really well.  It had a hard drive failure while I was supposed to be on holiday, but thankfully it only took me about 40-minutes to replace the hard drive and completely reload the system from scratch.  There is no way that I could have done that with a Windows based machine, so although I really didn't like having to come in to work while on holidays, it wasn't as painful as it could have been had one of our servers in our primary network gone down.  Coming in for that is what prompted me to say last time that I want to leave the city at a minimum next time I take a holiday.

Well, tonight we are going to have Satay Chicken for dinner, so I had better get going...
