Evolution of a Blog
I then found Journal Home, which is where this blog is now hosted and it became much easy to update.
That's it as far as the technology part of how my blog runs goes. Probably even more interesting than that is the direction that my blog has taken.
When I first started blogging I started out just writing about the things that were happening in my life personally. I would write something new every week or two, sometimes listing projects I was working on at work, but often as not just writing about being newly married and then a new dad.
Gradually over time I started to write more and more about what I do, which is managing IT, video conferencing and web site development and maintenance at Reef to Outback - Youth With A Mission (YWAM), the non-profit that ave been volunteering at full time for the last seven and a half years. There are about 850 different YWAM operating centres around the world, all with different levels of expertise and experience, so a lot of what I was writing was geared towards helping them out. That idea has actually spun off of this site and onto YWAM Information Technology where we opened it up to a lot more input from others around the world working with our organization. I also branched out my house renovations stuff to Renovate Australia, a Wordpress blog that goes into detail about us renovating our 1930's Queenslander.
Now I mostly write about IT related stuff, some Web Development stuff, some stuff that is happening around YWAM and a bit of personal stuff. The site is growing and I am trying to develop my skills in different areas to continue to provide decent content on this site. I have started some on-line training with a local technical college and have also been reading a lot and listening to podcasts about some of the areas that I really need to get working better at Reef to Outback.
I would be curious to hear feedback about this blog:
- Is the direction that it is heading good, or is it not very helpful?
- How can I improve this blog?
- Should I split the blog up to focus more on the different topics in their own blogs?
- Any thing else you want to add?
Thanks for reading.
