No More Television - Again

Posted on Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Unspecified
I have stopped watching television before, twice, but I've decided not to watch television any more unless it is with Tamara or the kids.

I think that I can to this decision when at 1:00am on Thursday last week I realised that I had just finished watching Stargate SG1 (good show, bad time slot). Rather than watching television that hour could have been put to much better use by doing pretty much anything, especially sleeping.

So I have done three things in the last week to help me make better use out of my time, and to help me get more sleep:
  1. No more TV unless I am watching it with Tamara or the kids.
  2. No more late night snacks or drinks, except on a painting night.
  3. I have set a "Go to bed" reminded on my computer for 11:30 so I don't loose track of time.
Well, the alert just came up, so I am off to bed, after gluing the wheel back onto Caleb's remote control car (Jessica threw it across the room!).

Are You Doing What God Wants You To Do?

Posted on Monday, May 5, 2008 in Personal

Although the video is produced for an Internet Marketing audience, it certainly fits in with asking the questions, "What does God want me to do?".

If I were to write down the three things I'm most passionate about would be:
  1. Family
  2. Getting others involved in Christian Missions
  3. Communicating what God is doing in the Nations
What am I doing about pursuing those passions?
  1. Not enough, but trying to find the balance between quality family time and getting things done
  2. With the marketing that I do at Reef to Outback I feel this is the best way to help others find out about opportunities available in missions
  3. Web site development for Reef to Outback and YWAM as a whole to assist to communicate what God is doing
How about you, what are your top three passions and what are you doing to pursue them?

If you want to share then let us know in the comments...

Update on our YWAM Outreach to Thailand

Posted on Friday, April 11, 2008 in Information Technology
In my last article, Children at Risk Video - Lost in the Crowd, I had mentioned that Reef to Outback had a team in Thailand right now outreaching to Thai Prostitutes. They just sent an outreach update, and here are a few snippets from it:
"Last Thursday we went and visited a ministry called "Night Light". Night Light is a Jewelry Company that sells Jewelry all over the world. Located in Nana, one of the major red light districts in the heart of Bangkok, it is a very literal light in the darkness. Night Light is a very young ministry, but you wouldn't be able to tell that by the 70+ women they had working for them making jewelry. Each of these 70 women used to be employed in the Sex Trade and have now left COMPLETELY making a living making jewelry for Night Light. The global sales of this jewelry pays the women's salary

...

Jess, Jill, Sara and Steph went into the heart of the red light district and talked to women who were working that night. Jess said she could literally feel Jesus walking beside her the entire time, and had conversations with women in the bars.

...

We are immersing ourselves in the issue of the Sex Trade. It is dark, it is sick, it is devilish, unbelievably perverted and excruciating, but God is there. God is in the bars, God is in the heart of a redeemed woman, God is in every piece of jewelry, God is there. God is making people new. And it is just the beginning."
You can read the full outreach update from our School of Music in Missions team on the YWAM - Reef to Outback web-site.

Children at Risk Video - Lost in the Crowd

Posted on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in YWAM

If this doesn't move you to desire change in our world, then I really don't know what will...

God has been highlighting more and more issues of injustice like what is presented in the video to YWAM. We have an outreach team in Thailand right now working with an outreach to Thai prostitutes. We also have an outreach team in Cape York, Australia, where horrible crimes against children and women have been happening.

Voice for the Voiceless is one ministry that is focusing on issues of injustice to women and children.

Voice for the Voiceless Australia Web Site

Posted on Friday, March 21, 2008 in Web Development
The last two weeks I've been working like crazy to get a new web-site for Voice for the Voiceless up and running. I had a week to set-up the site and get it running before a radio advertising campaign was launched.

You can check out the results of my work at www.voiceforthevoiceless.com.au.

Voice for the Voiceless raises awareness of Gender Based Injustice issues. Awareness is raised though a 30-day prayer guide and though Voice in the Dark Concerts. Both of which you can find out more about on the site.

One of the coolest features of the site, I think, is the embedded live video stream for the concert that will be running tomorrow (Saturday) night. We have also embedded recordings of some of the stories from the 30-day prayer guide.

You can read a bit of the process that I went though in setting up the site over at Using Wordpress for a Basic Web-Site - Voice for the Voiceless Australia.

My Australian Citizenship Has Been Approved

Posted on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in Other
I got a letter a few days ago stating that my Australian Citizenship Application has been approved.

After passing my Australian Citizenship test last month it only took about a month for my citizenship application to be approved.

My Australian Citizenship won't be final until I have completed my citizenship oath. That probably won't happen until after the local council election later this month as the citizenship ceremonies are organised by the local council.
