Upgrading the YWAM - Reef to Outback Podcast
In the last few months at YWAM - Reef to Outback I have doing a fortnightly podcast. It was originally meant to be a weekly podcast, but I have been having a hard time keeping up with that and everything else in IT, communications and the web.
For the recording I have been using my laptop with a $25.00 Plantronics headset and an external Creative Extigy sound card. I like using the extigy because it removes the sound processing from the laptop and also has a volume dial for the microphone which is very helpful for adjusting the input level. For software I have been using Audacity, which is free and quite a powerful little program.
Lately I have been looking at changing the format a bit of the podcast to include more people. The problem that I have faced is that my little set-up doesn't really cut it for more than one person. I read a good post about how to upgrade your podcast, which you can read here:
The set-up that he writes about looks pretty good, the only thing that I would want different would be a soundboard with four microphone inputs so that we could have four people on the show at a time. I was looking at something like the Behringer Eurorack UB1202FX, which is the step up from the one Jake recommends and has 12-inputs including four mic inputs. It can be had for about $200 here in Australia.
Of course living in Australia I will be looking at probably closer to the $500 mark rather than the $200 mark once you take into account the exchange rate and the extra cost that we pay for all manufactured goods.
