Coping with Noise - Today is a Classical Music Day
Ever since the IT and Media offices merged here at YWAM - Reef to Outback I have struggled with the increased volume of noise. (Read about the merge here, Stack 'em and Rack 'em) The solution that I have been trying for the last two weeks, with a bit of success, is listening to loud classical music in my headphones. I find that I get too distracted if I listen to music with words, but the classical stuff actually helps me focus and drown out all the noise in the background.I don't know how well this will work next week when Sam leaves for a five week vacation in America. With him gone I will actually need to hear the phone when it rings, which I can't do when I have the music going.
There is a good discussion about this at 456 Berea St: Coping with Noice in the Workplace. One of their suggestions is to use noise cancelling headphones but I use my Paltronic headset and it works pretty good. It doesn't completely block out the noise, but it helps.
