Coping with Noise - Today is a Classical Music Day

Posted on Friday, March 24, 2006 in Other
Ever since the IT and Media offices merged here at YWAM - Reef to Outback I have struggled with the increased volume of noise. (Read about the merge here, Stack 'em and Rack 'em)  The solution that I have been trying for the last two weeks, with a bit of success, is listening to loud classical music in my headphones.  I find that I get too distracted if I listen to music with words, but the classical stuff actually helps me focus and drown out all the noise in the background.

I don't know how well this will work next week when Sam leaves for a five week vacation in America.  With him gone I will actually need to hear the phone when it rings, which I can't do when I have the music going.

There is a good discussion about this at 456 Berea St: Coping with Noice in the Workplace. One of their suggestions is to use noise cancelling headphones but I use my Paltronic headset and it works pretty good.  It doesn't completely block out the noise, but it helps.
