Practical Tips to Getting More Done

Posted on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 in Other
A constant problem that I have is getting everything done in a day that I have to. This includes personal stuff and work related stuff.

Ryan Carson over at A List Apary has some really good practical tips for getting more done in your day:
  1. Avoid using instant messaging
  2. Only check your e-mail twice a day
  3. Stick to what matters
  4. Ask for alone time
  5. Limit blog-reading time
  6. Make lists
  7. Restrict meetings
For myself I got overwhelmed with instant messaging quite a while ago and just stopped using it. I go through boughts of checking or not checking e-mail and I am finding that reading all the blogs that I subscribe to is taking longer as I find more good content out there to read. I have lists coming out of my ears (including on the intranet that I manage) and I really need to work on managing my meetings and work schedule.
This is an ad revenue sharing blog.

So other than one of things on the list (instant messaging) I need to put some serious work into being more productive with my time.

Ryan Carson was working towards getting everything done in a four day week. I will be happy if I can figure out how to do half of what I need and want to in a five day week.
