My Ongoing Struggle with Desktop Search

Posted on Friday, June 16, 2006 in Information Technology
Well I have finally given on actually being able to run a desktop search engine on my computer. I have 512MB of RAM, and a 2Ghz processor, but every desktop search engine that I have tried has slowed down my computer quite a lot. I have tried Google Desktop Search and Microsoft Live Desktop Search. They both operate the same.

I recently read an article about desktop search and the main thing that they focused on was processing time used by the desktop search engine. They came up with two products that they rated as the best, based on quality of search and the lowest amount of processor usage.

Here are the two that they chose:

  1. Yahoo Desktop Search
  2. Copernic Desktop Search
They choose Yahoo Desktop Search as their best option for a single computer set-up. The advantage that the Copernic Desktop Search offers you is that you can also search network drives, which is pretty cool.

So which one am I running? None, I'm sick of slowing my computer down with another desktop search engine so I am going to try to use my mind to remember where things are.
