Why I Write this Blog about YWAM

Blog GoalsFor the last 6-months or so my goal with this site if I am to be completely honest is to move on up the Google search engine for search terms related to "YWAM". Some of the most searched for generic terms according to SEO Book Keyword Suggestion Tool is "YWAM" and "YWAM DTS". Both of these terms I am currently ranking in the top 15 sites and the ranking is slowly increasing over time.

What's my Interest in YWAM?
Almost all of my Christian experience has been with Youth With A Mission (YWAM). I did my YWAM DTS (Discipleship Training School) in June 1998 to try to figure out "Who God was". Since then I have been a full-time volunteer with the organization working with the YWAM DTS, and now work primarily with communications and information technology.

One of my jobs is overseeing the web-site for our specific YWAM location, YWAM - Reef to Outback in Townsville, Australia. What I am learning on this site I am also trying to apply to that site in terms of SEO, but for some reason this site is often rated higher than our official site. As you can imagine my boss isn't too excited about that one...

Why do I want to show up for people searching for YWAM?

I only started majoring on writing about YWAM since November last year when I noticed some of my articles starting to show up near the top of some YWAM search terms. Personally I think that YWAM is an amazing opportunity to people to get involved in missions, so through this site I want to try to encourage people to participate in it.

Another thing that I want to do to change peoples mind sets about what Christian Missions actually is. It is not just the traditional view of visiting people living in grass huts and planting a church, but it can also be sitting behind a computer building web-sites, networks and computer systems.

A Place for YWAM News
There is also not really a central place for YWAM News. Using technorati, google alerts and a lot of RSS subscriptions I try to also make this site a place where people can get a lot of YWAM News.

Who is my Inspiration?
Well, believe it or not, one of the people that probably does for his company what I would like to do for YWAM would be Robert Scoble. He manages to generate a lot of conversation about Microsoft and he is not always "glowing" about what is happening there. He manages to ask some pretty tough questions and generate a lot of feedback about the company.

Do I ever hope to have his readership? No, definitely not, there is not a chance of that. What I do want to do though is to generate conversation and let people know a bit about what is happening in YWAM.

Why did I write this post?
Over at ProBlogger Daren is running a Group Writing Project about Blog Goals. This post is meant to be a part of that project.
