Going to the Townsville Beach
This weekend Caleb and I headed down to The Strand here in Townsville for a kick of the football. This is the Aussie Rules (AFL) football, not rugby, not grid iron (American or Canadian Football) and not soccer (what the entire world except North America and Australia call football). My son is such a North Queenslander, it's funny. Because of the wind he thought that it was too cold to play, all he wanted to do was hide behind me so that I would block the wind. After trying for about 10-minutes to coax him onto the sand and into the sun we decided to go for a drive to see a very large boat that was in the Townsville Port.
The boat was called the "Utopia Ace" and it is a car carrier with a capacity to carry 6400 mid-size cars! The thing was huge and looked very strange compared to most ships I've seen around. The unique shape of the ship is supposed to give it 6% better fuel efficiency and 1 knot more speed.
Caleb love ships. His favourite character on the Wiggles is Captain Feather Sword, the pirate, so it was a bit of a thrill for him to check out the Townsville Port.
