New Blog Template

Posted on Thursday, September 28, 2006 in Web Development
Well, I've been up late again playing around with the template for this site. Some of the changes are pretty obvious, but here is a list:
  • Template is optimized for 1024 wide screens now
  • Changed to a three column template from a two column template
  • Removed the Google AdSense block from the middle of the content (that was only really there because I wanted to see what the new video ads looked like)
  • Added an amazon affiliate link to the right sidebar (I get between 4 - 6% commission for any sales though that link)
  • Moved the subscribe link and e-mail box to be "above the fold"
  • Changed the formatting of the comments so that they stand out more as comments
I think that those are the main changes. Here are some other things that I want to do to it at some point soon.
  • I am currently not using any H2 tags, only H1 and then H3, so I want to change that
  • Figure out a better way to display the subscribe icon and links
  • Fix the display problems between Firefox and IE for the search form and the e-mail subscribe form
I would love your feedback as there is much more that I would like to do, and I would like to hear from you readers what else you might suggest. Please put your thoughts in the comment section below...
This is an ad revenue sharing blog.

Looks nice.
But I agree that it looks very similar to the previous template.

I still see some Google Ads, you didn't remove them all?

- Not all Google Ads Removed

I didn't remove all the ads, but I had a 250 x 250 square in the main content section. It was too disctracting from the main content so now I just have the ad blocks in the sidebar and at the bottom of the blog post. I also have a link box in the sidebar.

I might add another ad block later since you're allowed three, but I'm not sure yet.
