High YWAM Staff Turn Over

Posted on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 in YWAM
While down at the YWAM Australia National Leaders Meeting in Melbourne our leaders were presented with some interesting statistics.
  • YWAM Staff world wide turn over at a rate of 25% per year
  • YWAM Australia has a staff turn over of 24% per year
  • World Wide YWAM brings in 30% new staff each year
  • So YWAM is increasing it's staff numbers at a rate of 5% (6% in Australia) each year
In our base management team today we talked a bit about how this high turn over rate affects those of us who have been here a while. At Reef to Outback I have probably seen over 200 staff come and go since I joined staff here in 1999. It can be very emotionally draining to have so many friends come and go.

In a situation like this is it easy to want to isolate ourselves from the "short term" (under 2-year) staff. It can save us a lot of emotional stress when people decide to go, but it can also limit a lot of what God want to do in our lives, and in the lives of those "short term" staff.

It's an interesting ballance that every person in YWAM needs to work out for themselves. God's convicted me many times of isolating myself too much from the people coming through, and it's a constant challenge to want to invest into the lives of everyone who comes through, not just the long term people.
