I Hate Goldmine!!!
That's kind of been the Mantra around here this week. Actually for me I've been saying that since October last year when we decided that we wanted to upgrade to a better/more advanced contact management, but we aren't willing to pay for it. Instead we have wasted 7-months with me trying to install the upgrade without any outside assistance. For the next week we have a database specialist visiting us and trying to help us get it running, and he is also telling me that Goldmine does not appear to be a very good program.Right now I am shutting down the servers for the weekend as our anti-virus just expired a few minutes ago and I don't want to leave our servers open to a virus over the weekend, because I can almost guarantee that we would get infected since most of our users are not very computer savy. I will not be very popular with them, but that has never bothered me before, and it sure won't now...
Tamara and Caleb just got here, so I am going to head down stairs after I make some signs for people not to turn on the Terminal Servers.
What a pain...
Anyways, this weekend we hope to go and fly Caleb's new kite down at The Strand. Sara Giltinan has a birthday down there at 11:00 tomorrow (Saturday) morning, so maybe I will try to get down there a bit early. At least that is something to look forward to after this week at work...

- Goldmine - what's not to hate?
Anonymous on Friday, May 20, 2005I couldn't agree more with your assessment. Goldmine is just about the most user un-friendly program I have ever encountered. The company I work for spends excessive amounts of money and time to fix, configure, recover, and patch this lousy program. The web/email components are so cumbersome and troublesome, it is clearly evident GM was developed long before the advent of the Internet. We now are developing our own training manual so employees know what not to do (even though logic would dictate so) and how to avoid pitfalls and accidental mess-ups.
I feel better now (just had a major incident with GM -- again!)
