Frustration and Some Good News

Posted on Monday, June 20, 2005 in Personal

I tried to get on the training web-page over the weekend, but it didn't work!  I think that it was a problem with my ISP, Digiplus.  I could only access about half of the web-pages that I tried, but when I logged onto one of the servers at Reef to Outback those web-pages worked fine.  Also I was getting hit a few times per minute by various hacks/probes, which was crazy, especially on a dial up account where it's too slow to begin with.  Despite calling back a few times (at 16 cents a try!) I was not able to connect successfully to the training page.

The good news though is that I was talking with Ken about my training and work has agreed to cover the costs of the course!  That's pretty cool as I was not at all expecting that to happen.
This is an ad revenue sharing blog.

My mate David Couper just started his own blog.  The address for it is http://www.journalhome.com/daudi. He hasn't written too much there yet, but I'm sure that it will get a bit more interesting.  David and I share a lot of the same interests and we do much the same job, just that he is over in the UK and gets to spend a lot more time on development, where as I spend most of my time fixing problems and stuff.

At the moment we are still trying to work out our Contact Management solution.  Right now we are using Goldmine and we want to move to a more robust solution, but also one that is easier to use, as Goldmine is quite complicated.  We were thinking about using Goldmine CE for our registrar and training, but then since Goldmine CE runs on SQL we would also access the database through other applications like MS Access, Web-Interface, etc.  The problem though is that even in it's SQL mode Goldmine is still quite a beast and it's not very easy to integrate any other software into it.

Oh well, back to it tomorrow I guess...

Oh yeah, I finished staining and varnishing Caleb's bed over the weekend.  I am going to wait a week before moving it into his bed-room so that the smell has died down a bit.
