Cool YWAM SD Video

Posted on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 in YWAM
Stephen John Bryde did this fun little promotional video for the YWAM School of Design that we are currently running at Reef to Outback.

Stephen is a brilliant designer I work with who designed the new Reef to Outback web-site and is currently staffing the School of Design.

YWAM.org needs translators

Posted on Wednesday, July 25, 2007 in YWAM
The Youth With A Mission main international web-site, www.ywam.org, is currently in need of translators. The site is currently primarily in English, but with the international nature of Youth With A Mission they want to reflect that more on their main international web-site.

They are currently looking for translators for Potugese, Spanish, French and Korean.

You can find out more at the YWAM Communications web-site: Translators needed for YWAM.org.

Getting Lucky on Outreach

Posted on Monday, July 9, 2007 in YWAM
Reef to Outback YWAM OKAWe just sent our April Discipleship Training School on outreach into North Queensland in the new Oka. They will be gone for about 10-weeks and regularly updating stories in the news section of the Reef to Outback web-site. They have been doing a lot of preparation since the beginning of the school and there is already some very exciting stories about the outreach team.

Something that I don't think that they are doing, but that they might want to consider doing, is wearing a name tag (not like the Mormon's, but a simple written name tag) ...

Don't believe me? Well watch this video about Scott Ginsberg, who some people consider to be one of the luckiest people on earth:

So what do you think now?

Wearing a name tag could be a fantastic opportunity to start conversations and get to meet people on outreach. I don't think that I would advocate tattooing your name on your chest, but a name tag on you shirt could be a great way to open up more opportunities to share the gospel.

GENESIS Link with YWAM Kona

Posted on Friday, July 6, 2007 in YWAM
Right now we are in the middle of a GENESIS (Video Conferencing) connection with YWAM Kona as part of the YWAM School of Design that we are running here at Reef to Outback. Using this technology we are able to bring in Kenny Jackson, who is the Dean of the College of Communications for the University of the Nations.

GENESIS is a great tool for us to bring in some of our international speakers, without having to fly them out for an entire week. There is actually a great discussion going on over at www.ywamit.com right now about GENESIS in the mission.

Being in Australia it's a great tool for us as flights into Australia is actually quite expensive, so this technology opens up so many new opportunities and speakers to us.

(sorry about the quality of the photos, I only have my web-cam in the classroom right now)

What to Include in a Missionary Care Package

Posted on Sunday, July 1, 2007 in YWAM
Missionary-Blogs.com is currently running a writing project about what to include in a missionary care package. The rules of the writing project is as follows:
Write about what you'd love to get in a care package, but explain why (so I know what is country-specific).  You could also talk about packaging, ways to ship, what not to send, etc if that's an issue.  Think big, small, unusual and creative.  Think ministry-related, personal enjoyment or family encouragement.
Well, here are a few things that I consider to be good for a missionary care package, at least for us...

What to include in a letter:
  • Koolaid Packet (it fits into most envelopes)
    • I used to enjoy getting these when I first started over here, when I was single and had no kids...
  • Hot Chocolate Packet
  • Tea Bags
  • Coffee Bag / Packet
  • Money
All of those things were pretty easy to fit into a letter, and they are always fun for someone to receive. The Koolaid one is especially relevant for young missionaries.

What to include in a mid-sized package:
  • Favourite Television Series DVDs
    • For us right now it would be Corner Gas Season 4 and The Office (American Version) Season 3
  • Kraft Dinner (but not for Australia as Customs will take it)
  • Beef Jerky (same goes as the Kraft Dinner for Australia)
  • Sun-Flower Seeds (Spitz)
  • Chocolate
  • Kid's Clothes (obviously only for families)
  • Books & Magazines
  • Music CDs
  • Coffee (Tim Horton's is definitely our favourite)
  • Vitamins and Medicines (Bulk from Costco)
What to include in a large package. Really here the sky is the limit and it would depend almost entirely on the person. For us it would be:
  • Adult Clothing
  • Laptop / Computer
  • Stuffed Moose / Bear Head (for Caleb's Canadian Themed Bedroom)
  • Kid's Toys
  • Kid's Board Books and Audio Books
  • Ice Hockey Sticks & Street Hockey Balls
  • Calgary Flames Jersey
The list could really go on almost forever, but as I said before, it really depends on the person that it is being sent to.
