What to Include in a Missionary Care Package
Write about what you'd love to get in a care package, but explain why (so I know what is country-specific). You could also talk about packaging, ways to ship, what not to send, etc if that's an issue. Think big, small, unusual and creative. Think ministry-related, personal enjoyment or family encouragement.Well, here are a few things that I consider to be good for a missionary care package, at least for us...
What to include in a letter:
- Koolaid Packet (it fits into most envelopes)
- I used to enjoy getting these when I first started over here, when I was single and had no kids...
- Hot Chocolate Packet
- Tea Bags
- Coffee Bag / Packet
- Money
What to include in a mid-sized package:
- Favourite Television Series DVDs
- For us right now it would be Corner Gas Season 4 and The Office (American Version) Season 3
- Kraft Dinner (but not for Australia as Customs will take it)
- Beef Jerky (same goes as the Kraft Dinner for Australia)
- Sun-Flower Seeds (Spitz)
- Chocolate
- Kid's Clothes (obviously only for families)
- Books & Magazines
- Music CDs
- Coffee (Tim Horton's is definitely our favourite)
- Vitamins and Medicines (Bulk from Costco)
- Adult Clothing
- Laptop / Computer
- Stuffed Moose / Bear Head (for Caleb's Canadian Themed Bedroom)
- Kid's Toys
- Kid's Board Books and Audio Books
- Ice Hockey Sticks & Street Hockey Balls
- Calgary Flames Jersey

Gleanings 4 The Hungry
While uploading Jessica's latest walking video I found a new video on YouTube about Gleanings 4 The Hungry.
I found it to be a very compelling video highlighting the wastage in our society, but also how that waste can be used to assist those less fortunate. This is a ministry of Youth With A Mission that I have never heard of, and probably wouldn't have heard of if not for the YouTube video. They have been operating for 25 years and in 2004 processed 4,400,000lbs of dried fruit for distribution to hungry and needy around the world.
You can find out more about the ministry at their web-site, www.gleanings.org. If you want to find out the latest news you will need to download the .pdf newsletters, as the news on the site itself has not been updated since November last year as of this post.

YWAM Marine Reach has a Helicopter
I thought that this was pretty cool news:East Africa: The Tanzania project helicopter is now operational! The insurance policy is fully funded for the year and flight operations are commencing! We are so pleased to be assisting with this important, original YWAM Marine Reach Aviation program. God bless MAF pilot Bob Gillan for his hard work developing this start-up.We have had a few opportunities lately to pick up an airplane to assist us in outreach to the Outback communities here in North Queensland, but it hasn't worked out for us. It's great to see this valuable tool available for use in East Africa.

YWAM Woodcrest Video
YWAM Woodcrest has put out a pretty decent short video about their YWAM Base and what they are doing there...It's great to see other YWAM bases embracing the web and YWAM Woodcrest has really been leading the way with some of their courses and with what they offer on their web-site.
