Got my ESVSB!

I am pretty excited about my new ESV Study Bible. This is by far the most in-depth study bible I have ever owned. TONS of notes makes for a weighty bible. But it is rich. Can't wait to really dig into this one!

New On-line Bible: this raises the standard

Well, they have done it. The innovative and hard-working folks at Logos Bible Software have released their on-line Bible, and my tests on it show it to be an outstanding resource. There is a long list of translations available to search (including original language critical texts). I think it is awesome and will be the top standard for what an on-line Bible should be. Check it out! go to http://bible.logos.com

The Benefits of Paper and Pen.

It has been three months now since I made the decision to "go retro" with my journal. It has been quite liberating to switch back to a bound paper journal. (Yes.. it is recycled paper...at least it says so on the back. And it is proudly printed in the USA... screened lines of paper bound in a book... how hard can it be?) And the pen scratching across the page connects me with my past and present somehow.
I have found that journaling the old-fashioned way has made me think a little harder. When I type at a keyboard, I tend to just write in a "stream of consciousness" manner. The backspace key and the delete button become good friends to eliminate poor logic or less than clear thinking. But I don't get that luxury when writing by hand, and thus I think more in paragraphs then in short sentences. That is a good thing to do. Plus, I have yet to have my blank journal book crash, hang-up, or fail to connect to the Internet!
So I will keep this up until the end of this year, and then get back to my electronic journal. For now this blog remains sparse, but eventually I may catch it up with some edited journal entries from what is now a handsome hard copy of my thoughts.

Just saying "Hi".
For some odd reason, journalhome has not been letting me sign on for over a week. Got it to work today. This is really irritating!!!
I am just typing to see if it will work. Hope so.Comments (0) :: Post A Comment! :: Permanent Link

Labor Day Weekend

It's the end of summer. We have been busy with a weekend of wrapping up a painting project for the entire living space of our house. We finally got the "red wall" done, and it looks pretty impressive. I suppose we can start hosting fellowship desserts again now that the house is looking less like a project and more like a home. And the timing is good. Ministry responsibilities are picking up at this busier time of year, and I am in a good place, though I am more tired than usual after a summer marked with three weeks of vacation time.
Plans for the holiday tomorrow are to sit down and design the scaffold to erect over the entryway so that we can finish what we have started. We need to repair some wall cracks, and then repaint over the entryway. Once done, we will have completed a project we have spent most of this year at. We purchased a couple of furniture pieces on Friday night as well, completing the family room downstairs.
Zach has probably had the best time of all of us. His new Les Paul Special II has kept him occupied for hours on end in his room, and even now I am being treated to an impromptu mix of blues, jazz, and head-banging rock as he puts it through its paces. At one point this afternoon he was hugging the guitar, calling it his baby, and smiling uncontrollably! He got this to celebrate making jazz band in 6th grade! This should be passable for the next three years. It is nice enough to replace his uper-cheap Johnson starter guitar, yet inexpensive enough that I am not freaking out at the prospect of him bringing it back and forth to school each day!

Free Book from Logos

I love it when I get a free book, particularly a valuable commentary! Logos is giving away Matthew & Mark in the Cornerstone Commentary series! You have to have the Libronix software installed to use it, but it is FREE! Woo Hoo!
