Anyone who loves fishing, have fish for pets and anyone who want to feed their fishes would agree that Prawn fishing or prawning is such an enjoyable and addictive sport and here are a few tips you can use to be able to catch prawns successfully and you can be assured that though these tips are usually geared to prawn farm fishing, when you fish prawn on streams and ponds, you’d get essentially the same results.
Even though prawn fishing farms provide fishing rod, hook size 2 or 3 or bigger if you know they are big prawns but must be sharp, and baits like seaworms, earthworms, chicken liver or heart together with their hourly charge, you should bring your own tools if probable especially baits to enhance your catch rate. Prawns are bottom feeders so it is important that your bait reaches the bottom of the pond and with this, the first thing to do is to determine the deepness of the pond. One easy way to measure it is to dip the rod butt into the pond; once the butt touches the bottom of the pond, take note of the water level and adjust your float accordingly to the length of the hook to the float and it should be the same as the water level. Consider the sharpness of the hook when prawn fishing because it differs from typical fishing in terms of frequent hook ups and one session of prawning could mean more hook ups that can wear out your hook’s sharpness faster. A dull hook could decrease the hook up rate. One mistake most people cause is to fight the prawn and people tend to do this because the adrenaline rush they get allows them to quickly yank the prawn out of the water which results in a lot of prawns getting lost instead of getting caught. This is because when the prawn is trying to escape, it uses its tail to make a backward thrust and by pulling it out of water, you have created an opposite force and the two opposite forces can easily tear the prawn’s mouth. You can avoid this from happening by keeping your cool and allowing the prawn to struggle at the other end of the line and as for you, just hold on to your rod, allow the rod to absorb the retreating force of the prawn and wait for the prawn to get tired, because once it does, you can lift it out of the water already.
In the middle of the fast-paced and busting life in Singapore, Jurong Hill Prawn Fishing is a place where people can energize with their family and friends. Prawnng originated from Taiwan and not many people engage in this kind of activity before but recently they seem to have discovered interest in this kind of activity. The owner enjoys prawning as hobby and diversion which leads him to venture into business and he talks about that Jurong Hill was set up in the west to provide an alternative place for people to fish and host business retreats and celebrations such as Chinese New Year and National Day. As it is to be found near most tertiary schools, it is also suitable for students to arrange gatherings. The different types of baits like live worms and small portions of chicken’s heart were introduced by him and he mentioned that most people prefer live worms as baits as it has more chances. There are two process of prawning and one is to let the float stay above the water and another to slowly lure the prawns by dragging the rod. The float is likely to sink when the prawns bite so you should watch this out and know that this is the time to strike the prawns. Patience and practice are still needed to successfully catch prawns.
