Thu 11 October 2007 - Little Bitty Rays of Sunshine
So I have been a bit of a party-pooper lately because I am A)broke and B)despite my incredibly contagious, warm and bubbly personality, I am kind of a loner here.  BUT the tables are turning and the light outside is getting rosier!
Today I got paid, not the full amount promised... but I won't complain because I can actually pay rent. Actually, I am now able to pay Stéph because she had to pay my part of the rent when the first week of the month rolled around and my grand total was loaded with zeros but no number of value leading the way. Now I feel so rich! To my American-dollar-raised eyes the amount in my Spanish bank account looks huge. That is mainly because I double it when thinking in dollars... our money is so weak right now... not sure if anyone other than the struggling students from the American continents realize that.  The people who come from other parts of the European Union are in Heaven because Spain is one of the cheapest Euro-using countries... and those from the United Kingdom are just rolling in their Phat Pounds. The good ol' US of A ain't all it is cracked up to be... but neither am I tooting Spain's horn, ok?  Closed minded and racist isn't limited to the Confederate States, it is all over.
Yesterday was Rafa's birthday.  He is one of the kids I tutor in English and I went today to buy him a present.  I really wanted to get him a fun and interesting book in English but unfortunatly there is no Barnes & Noble on the corner to run to.  (Sometimes I miss the capitalist aspect of the States.)  I had to search all of the little bookstores around Ciudad Real and the only one that I could find was The Hound of the Baskervilles by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle... I got another one too, but I haven't read it and can't remember the name because it is already wrapped.  It obviously did not catch my attention but I hope it is good... at least it is fairly short and in English. It is the thought that counts, right?
Ok... so the other super exciting bit of news is that Jordan is coming to visit Ciudad Real for the weekend! He arrived after a brutal testing of the gods (delayed flights, plane turning around due to malfunctioning bathrooms while over the Atlantic, lost laptop, living in airports, found laptop) in Granada where he went out alone last Friday.  By a random shift in the universe he happened to meet one of my friends from Guanajuato, Miguel, who is living there for a while... they had been at one tapas place and then Jordan said he saw them at another later in the night and began to talk to them... found things to talk about in common and turns out one of those was me! What an itty-bitty world we live in.  So, Jordan gets in tomorrow and I don't really know what we will do... but it doesn't matter cause now I will not be alone.
(But don't think I am a loser or anything... I have friends... seriously, I do... :)... sometimes it is just nice to have someone around that you really know... you know?)
    Love to all...
