The last few days have been insane!
I had to finish getting the paperwork together for Zoe's school, take her to her physical, fill her Epi-Pen RX (school policy is to keep one on hand in case of allergic reaction, but it has to be unopened), make sure she was also prescribed a new allergy meds because the liquid Claritin just isn't doing the job, take the papers to the school and get Zoe there on time. That was all in one day. I took her to school myself rather than allow her to ride the bus so I could drop off the papers, the Epi-Pen and a fresh bottle of Benadryl (with a new meds dropper) because Zoe's doctor wrote in her instructions that she should have both in case of exposure to nuts, which set her off in just a few seconds and with extreme severity. They're still going to call an ambulance for her, but the Benadryl helps block the histamines that trigger the reaction and the Pen stops the anaphylactic reaction, which could easily kill her. I've seen her come in contact with both hazel nuts and peanuts, and the reaction is terrifying.
Earlier that same day I took some papers to Trent's school (my babies attend separate schools for now) so that he can continue his education during the summer. Zoe will be doing that too. It means we don't get any kind of vacation time this summer, but it's really important to make sure they don't lose the progress they've made, so when the programs were offered to us, Larry and I agreed immediately. Maybe next year they won't need it, but this year we know they do.
For a change I was actually organized, which goes pretty much contrary to all that which is me. I'm chronically late, terminally disorganized and have crippling CRS (as in, Can't Remember Shit). That day I had all of their papers, Zoe's meds, got her to class on time, got there a few minutes early to pick both children up from their schools and for a brief and shining moment felt totally in control.
Then I got home and Zoe's school called me to let me know I had forgotten to sign one of the papers. They're sending it home in her backpack so I can sing it and send it back.
Dammit!! so close.
Trent got an award!! There was a ceremony on Wednesday and he was presented with a citizenship award for responsibility. YEAH, BABY!! I figured when I got the letter informing me that he was being awarded (but didn't tell me which award), it was something like that. There have been some cards sent home recently telling me about different things Trent has done to help in some way - often without even being asked. We're so proud!!
Afterward his teacher and one of her assistants told me he seemed to not be feeling well, which I was aware of. His seasonal allergies have been hitting him (and Zoe too) pretty hard the last few days. Mrs. G said she thought he might be getting a cold. Turns out she was right. He developed a cough and was just miserable Wednesday night, neither of us getting much rest. Fortunately I was able to get him an early appointment yesterday morning. I just wanted to be sure he wasn't incubating something more serious like a sinus infection or pneumonia. That cough was really scary - not quite the barky type of cough you get with bronchitis but deep, breathless and loaded with phlegm. It sounds like it hurts. It turned out to be a heavy cold which still wouldn't be so bad if not for the persistence of that cough. I can't get it to stop completely but it is mostly under control until he tries to go to bed, then it becomes really intense again.
Zoe just started wailing, better go check on her. More later.
Later:
Zoe woke up with the cold this morning. Had to call her teacher and bus driver to let them know she wouldn't be in school today. Dammit. Their teddy bear picnic was today and now she's going to miss it.
