Tuesday, June 5, 2007 - Mysteriously disappearing images
Posted in Unspecified

I tend to post a lot of images in my entries, mainly because...well, I like posting them and if they help illustrate the point I was trying to make or stand as a statement on their own, all the better. Recently two of them have been disappearing. Photobucket yanked them both on separate (yet identical) occasions, and I have to wonder why.

The image shown here was published on multiple websites and in countless newspapers worldwide. There was no reason for PB to yank it. It isn't lewd, pornographic, graphically violent or even mildly upsetting. I find it quite beautiful, personally, and feel that way too much energy was wasted in generating outrage over it.

The image I posted in this entry was one of those that speaks for itself. It was created in response to Fred and Co.'s appalling behaviour and we all got a good chuckle over it at WitchVox. Would I like to see this photoshopped delight eventually play out in reality? You bet your sweet ass I would. It would be absolutely appropriate to have the place where so much hatred and fanaticism was generated torched to cinders. I doubt it would keep Freaky Freddy and his followers from spewing hatred toward gays, soldiers and practically everyone else (other christians included, there's a pathetic irony in that), but at the very least they'd be out of a place to gather for awhile. WBC is the toilet rim under which the most destructive and poisonous fundamentalist christian bacteria currently in existence collect. These people are a stain, even to other christians.

So yeah, I found the image delightful.

Note; I also knew who the artist was and gave him credit. Had I known the name of the photographer who took the picture of Chocolate Jesus I'd have done the same for him (or her). If I should learn the name of the artist the entry will be immediately amended to include it (or taken down if there's a copyright issue, there's no way I'd keep someone else's work posted on my site if they have asked me to remove it - I have ethics).

I never received a single complaint, warning, whathaveyou, from JournalHome, The issues thus far have been with PhotoBucket only, and the images removed from my account without my even receiving any notification first. I'd like to be approached, told there is a problem and given the opportunity to remove images from my own account. I'm not at all comfortable with the idea that the adminstrators of the site have so much editorial control over my account, and so little courtesy for their members that they have no ethical issues of their own with tampering with our accounts, MINUS so much as a simple email notifying us that there's an issue. I didn't even know it had happened the second time until I was going through some of my old entries to make sure the images in the entries fit the new template I was designing.

So the images disappeared one by one with no explanation and I know that at least in the case of Roy Addams, the image was intended to be shared.

PhotoBucket probably doesn't have the time to monitor the many individual accounts in their database so what I figure is this; someone complained. The Chocolate Jesus was the subject of some serious controversy at the time I posted my entry about it so It's not outside the realm of possibility that someone saw it, got their bloomers in a bunch and contacted PB. I can't imagine anyone would be that tweaked over it, but I can't see why the images would be deleted otherwise.

Looks like it's time to find another image host. Perhaps one that contacts members if there's an issue rather than screwing around in their accounts. Blog hosts don't even do that.

Until then the images will be hosted here. Less chance of them disappearing that way.

I've missed you, I sent a letter to you via JH, hope you receieved it, As for the photo, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, its just an artist's expression, through his or her own art. As for photobucket fuck them, most engage in god damn fucking censorship, sound off get angry, get assertive, bitchy most photos if you find on google are of free domain, despite what they say, I always try to be respectful and credit sources when possible but if you know the artist you can credit he or she.
I just thought of something sweetheart http://picasaweb.google.com/ maybe you can open an account there, you can also set an option that keeps it private and makes it extremely difficult to hotlink or copy the photo cause the file will be encrypted, hope that helps.
If you like in support i'll post it on mine too, instead of in a blog setting perhaps on the side bar of the site where its highly visible anyway sweetheart just let me know
P.S. loved your comment, expecially the begining part lol. You're adorable when your bitchy, lol
I hope all is well with you and family
((((((((((((((((((((((((((Love you much! Blessings Always!))))))))))))))))))

Same thing is happening around Flickr, for no apparent reason. I've only heard about that, that if they find anything halfway offensive or semi-sexual about a tag, not once looking at the images themselves, and you haven't set your account to mature, you risk deletion or even closure. I've heard rumors that they are trying to conform to the tastes of the Bible Belt.

Cute, Jason.

I figured that was probably you.

Well the pictures are now up to stay as they are posted elsewhere. And if I have to post them somewhere else that's fine too. Within the next few days (after I've found a host worth paying for the service), I'll have a paid account and the images will have a permanent home. Then you can whine all you want and they'll still be here because providers tend to not interfere in the accounts of their paying customers.

Either way, they stay posted.
