My overall impression of this game is that it's a festering pain in my ass.
The graphics are gorgeous and the storyline *though it takes an infinite degree of creative license* is pretty solid. The music is nice too. Everything about this game is quite lovely in terms of visuals, sound and effects.
The controls, however...boy howdy. It reminds me of a board game, only getting the little characters to move is an exercise in frustration. I have tried every combination of buttons and they only move about half the time, and attack even less frequently. You only get a certain number of moves per level and I seem to be using all of mine up letting the enemies attack because for some reason after they move I might - MIGHT - be able to get a hit in. The way I understand it, I'm supposed to highlight my path, then walk it, then set up my attack, then execute. No problem, except that if you don't get it right Jeanne ends up back on the square she started from. Just spent over an hour trying to make this thing work.
It's the closest I've ever come to flinging my PSP across the room.
Fuck this. I'm going to watch the third Lord Of the Rings movie and have a diet root beer float. I'm obviously doing something wrong but I don't have the patience to fool with it any more tonight. This last week I had to get Zoe started at Kennedy-Krieger, an orthodonture appointment for a popped wire (lemme hear ya say ouch; I did) and an IEP meeting at the school, not to mention the sudden worry and anxiety over Tes' situation. It was a bit stressful. I've had this game for a few months but hadn't played it yet and was hoping to relax a bit with it this evening. Not gonna happen.
Though to be fair it probably isn't so much the game itself as my inability to focus on it and master the controls. The same thing happens when I try to play Hitman. It looks like an inebriated spider monkey is at the controller. I'm convinced Agent 47 wants to kick my ass.
