Well, Work still continues on the chicken coop. The sides have started to go up, next is the roof and soon after the fencing and then our chicks will be introduced to their new home. Our chick, named Big momma, had come accustomed to me handling her. I still have to 'catch' her but once i do she will just 'nest' on my hand cooing and looking around. Little One, the runt of the coop, is finally starting to look more like the other ones. I still think she reminds me of an ostrich but she's very fast.
We still do not offically have our Dexter herd. We were hoping by the middle of August to have them but that may not happen. We have not even started the fencing for them. There are sooo many jobs to be done around here and with days to go until Will and I make an addition of our own to the farm it seems like the lists are just getting longer and longer.
My mom and I are planning on doing homemade cheeses as well as canning. So far we have made our own strawberry jelly and thats it. We are waiting on our cheese press to start the cheeses. To start with all of these things will be made just for use at home and maybe neighbors, to get their opinions, and then possibly selling at local markets around town. Maybe at some point we can sell online, who knows.
I am working on getting a sign for the farm. I had thought about having one made and with the style that i liked it was almost $700.00. I just can't see spending that much so im thinking of designing our own and working with my parents to get it put together. I was thinking maybe wooden letters, like the ones you can get at acmore or michaels and painting them. I dont know, i'd really have to come up with a design we all liked before thinking of how to do it!!
Will and I are also talking about making a weekend trip home to NY so that family and friends can see the baby. We are planning on sending out birth announcements so that everyone will get to see a picture of the baby. Well, Back to our website. ~Susan B.
