Code Craft
The art, science and craft of writing quality software

Aug. 25, 2005 - Hackeycrock

'Twas mirnig, and the dilber bose
Did pint and heller in the scroom:
All figiny were the lowly rose,
And the caffy crups did ploom.

"Beware the Hackeycrock, my son!
The lines that bite, the cruft that crawls!
Beware the Perly Code, and shun
McCabes meaningless scrawls!"

He took his refact´ry in hand;
Long time the brokneck line he sought-
So rested he by O´caml tree,
And stood a while in thought

And, as in grokish thought he stood,
The Hackeycrock, with lengthy whine,
Came crashing through the QA good,
And fear tingled his spine!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The refactr´y went clicker-click!
He left it clean, and with its CLU
He went galumphing back.

"And hast thou shorn the Hackeycrock?
Come bonus then, my crackish eng!
O leaserish day! Callooh, Callay!"
He chortled in his joy.

'Twas mirnig, and the dilber bose
Did pint and heller in the scroom:
All figiny were the lowly rose,
And the caffy crups did ploom.

Code Craft is the place for my thoughts, rants, ideas and occassional jokes on what it means to write code, why some people are better at it than others, and how we think about software in general.
