9/22/2019 - Bifold doors for the home
Modernising your house is a fun experience. Whether it’s extending that old lean-to, or choosing a new colour of paint for your living room, seeing your dream become an actuality is a fulfilling time. If an extension is too much of a stretch for your pocket bifold doors are an attractive and long lasting option that will have the same effect.
Bifold doors (sometimes referred to as concertina or harmonica doors in America) have taken over where French doors used to be because of their look, ease of maintenance and use and safety. Bifold doors have come a long way over the years and the technology behind the newer style " in both design and build " mean that they are now not only aesthetically pleasing but also move a lot more smoothly than they used to.
A bifolding door system is also very low maintenance. Whereas French windows were traditionally made from soft wood that could be accidently dented or stained, modern bifold doors are normally made in aluminium. The use of this metal makes them strong but also easy to keep clean. Aluminium only requires a quick wipe down to remove dirt or a dust down with a duster for everyday dirt.
As well as being easy to maintain bifold doors are also a hugely practical fixture. They are built to neatly stack on both or one side of an aperture when opened as well as allowing groups of people or large objects to move from one space to another. They are often utilised to open a room up into a garden thus letting an abundance of light and fresh air, lending themselves to parties and barbeques. French windows, or the sliding patio doors that were popular several years ago, were impractical for things like this as they were clunky and didn’t open as far.
Bifolding doors are also fantastic safety-wise. The construction of a bifold door generates what is primarily a wall of glass, what this transpires to mean is that a section of your house is constantly open to the elements of nature and needs to be resilient in order to last throughout the harsh British winters. The glass used in bi folding doors is weatherproof and tough but also provides a much higher level of security than sliding patio doors or traditional French windows.
Above all, it is the way that bi fold doors look that is making them such a popular choice. Not only are they stylish and easy-to-use but they look bright and modern. Having said this, they can be adapted to suit the space around them and work well in barn conversions as well as newly built properties.
