1/3/2001 - Football American Style - Learn How The United States Plays The Game
Posted in Unspecified

Football in the US is hugely popular with millions of people. Many sports have devoted followers and fans across the United States as well. There is a definite air of excitement when football season is about to begin. All levels of football begin at the same time right after summer vacation at the pro level down to grade school. The participants of this game are strong and competitive, but also willing to learn different plays and positions. Local schools and colleges always play their games on Friday nights giving the working population a chance to see them every week.

Playing a specific position requires different physical and mental attributes. For instance, if you have the ability to run very fast, the coach will make you a running back. When you play football, or watch it on TV, always look for the running back behind the quarterback. Blocking and protecting the quarterback is another function of this position. Running backs are sometimes trained to throw the ball when a trick play is called. Differentiated tactics in the game of football often include the running back because of their versatility.

Of course each team has offensive and defensive players. The defensive line will vary in numbers based on the call for the play. The defense can consist of 4 to 6 players depending on the play. If you are on the defense, you need to engage the offensive line and break through to get to the quarterback. If the defense sees a runner with the ball, it is their job to stop them as soon as possible. Defense also needs to punch holes in the offensive line so they can sack the quarterback. A coordinated defensive strategy that is often used is running at the quarterback so he backpedals back up the field.

All football teams have what are called, special teams. Basically, these special teams are meant for play that involves kicking the ball. The ball can be punted, or a field goal attempt can be made in the ball kicking plays. Field goal attempts are made straight after a score, or during a 3 point attempt. The third play is done by kicking off to the other team, either at the beginning of the game, after a score or in the third quarter after halftime. The special team members consist of the place kicker, punter and an additional role of the long snapper, who snaps balls to the punter. And don't forget the special team runners, who go and retrieve the ball after a kick-off punt has been made. If you are only starting to learn the game, just be sure to allow yourself plenty of time. When training for a competitive sport as this, figure on a lengthy period of time to become educated for maximum potential. Your commitment and desire to achieve a rewarding outcome will give you an advantage.
